DOWA METALTECH CO., LTD. (Headquarters: 14-1 Sotokanda 4-chome, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Capital: 1 billion yen; President: SUGAWARA Akira; hereinafter DOWA METALTECH), a subsidiary of DOWA HOLDINGS CO., LTD. (Headquarters: same as above; Capital: 36.4 billion yen; President: SEKIGUCHI Akira), commenced the full-scale operations of DOWA METALTECH (NANTONG) CO., LTD. (hereinafter New Company) in March this year. The New Company is the second DOWA METALTECH processing facility in China, a part of its tin-plating business for copper rolled products.
DOWA METALTECH, has been advancing the reflow tin-plating business globally, and engages in reflow tin-plating at its processing facilities in China and Thailand with equal quality with that in Japan. In 2002 in China, DOWA METALTECH established DOWA ADVANCED MATERIALS (SHANGHAI) CO., LTD. (hereinafter DOWA SHANGHAI) within Shanghai City's Export Processing Zone in the Songjiang District, and has been reflow tin-plating and slitting (cutting) copper rolled products manufactured mainly in Japan. In addition, through a range of initiatives including the opening of a sales office in Shenzhen in 2012, it continued to expand its tin-plating business for copper rolled products in China.
The New Company, which has begun full-scale operations, provides reflow tin-plating and slitting for copper rolled products. It built a 2,800 m2 plating plant in the provincially controlled industrial district dedicated to electroplating within the Rudong Economic Development Zone and a 13,000 m2 slitting plant in the general district located within the same zone, providing a total plating capacity of 600 tons per month. As a result, DOWA’s reflow tin-plating capacity, including the capacity of DOWA SHANGHAI, will increase to 1,000 tons per month in China.
Tin-plating is widely applied for electrical parts such as automotive wire harness terminals and busbars. The reflow tin-plating that is produced in the New Company significantly restrict the formation of whiskers, which may cause failures in electronic circuits and connecting parts.(*1) Furthermore, the New Company provides not only standard reflow tin-plating but also special plating such as heat-resistant plating, which can be used on parts exposed to high temperatures and low insertion force plating, which is necessary for small terminals.(*2)

In China, as the number of automobiles and related parts that are produced increases, demand for safety and long-term reliability of automotive parts is continuing to glow.
