DOWA ELECTRONICS MATERIALS CO., LTD. (14-1, Sotokanda 4-Chome, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Capital: 1.0 billion yen; President: SUZUKI Takehiko; hereinafter referred to as “DOWA ELECTRONICS MATERIALS”), a subsidiary of DOWA HOLDINGS CO., LTD. (same location; Capital: 36.4 billion yen; President: SEKIGUCHI Akira), has received a supplier award from its customer, Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (10-1, Higashikotari 1-Chome, Nagaokakyo-shi, Kyoto; Capital: 69.4 billion yen; President: NAKAJIMA Norio; hereinafter referred to as “Murata Manufacturing”). Murata Manufacturing annually selects and awards a number of suppliers for their contributions to and cooperation with its business development. This award recognized how the DOWA Group and Murata Manufacturing have jointly created a resource circulation scheme to secure and utilize recycled metals through the recycling of metal resources.
The DOWA Group has engaged in resource circulation for many years, developing closed-loop recycling of metal resources centered on the group company, Kosaka Smelting & Refining Co., Ltd. (60-1, Otarube, Kosakakouzan, Kosaka-machi, Kazuno, Akita; Capital: 4.7 billion yen; President: SATO Shigeki). Closed-loop recycling means a process of restoring a material to a state where it can be used as a raw material without having lost its original properties.
One feature of this resource circulation scheme is that it constitutes a complete resource circulation loop between the two companies of the DOWA Group and Murata Manufacturing. The DOWA Group not only recycles waste products derived from products sold by DOWA ELECTRONICS MATERIALS to Murata Manufacturing, it also processes them into new products that are then sold to Murata Manufacturing. Through this initiative, it is possible to reduce the amount of natural resources newly introduced and consumed as well as associated environmental impact and waste.

As preparations are made to transition to a recycling-oriented society, there is a growing need for recycled metals with a low environmental impact for use in automobiles, smartphones, and other applications. Based on the DOWA Group’s resource recycling functions and the strong relationship of trust built between Murata Manufacturing and DOWA ELETRONICS MATERIALS over several years, it was possible to realize this new scheme, which can provide products with a low environmental impact that satisfy the needs of the market.
Going forward, the DOWA Group will continue working to improve recycling quality by utilizing and expanding the individual functions of this unique recycling-oriented business model as well as deepening stakeholder cooperation.
