DOWA HOLDINGS CO., LTD.
DOWA METALS & MINING CO., LTD. (14-1, Sotokanda 4-Chome, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Capital: 1 billion yen; President: FUKUDA Kensaku; "DOWA METALS & MINING"), a subsidiary of DOWA HOLDINGS CO., LTD. (same location; Capital: 36.4 billion yen; President: SEKIGUCHI Akira), has resolved to merge four domestic zinc business-related subsidiaries—namely, AKITA ZINC CO., LTD. (217-9, Furumichi-shimokawabata, Iijima, Akita; Capital: 5 billion yen; President: SUGAWARA Yoshiaki; "AKITA ZINC"), AKITA ZINC SOLUTIONS CO., LTD. (1, Sunada, Iijima, Akita; Capital: 375 million yen; President: SUZUKI Kazunari), AKITA RARE METALS CO., LTD. (1, Sunada, Iijima, Akita; Capital: 20 million yen; President: TAKAOKA Mamoru), and AKITA ZINC RECYCLING CO., LTD. (217-9, Furumichi-shimokawabata, Iijima, Akita; Capital: 100 million yen; President: OGINO Masahiko)—with AKITA ZINC as the surviving company today. Furthermore, those four subsidiaries have signed a merger agreement effective today.
The zinc business is one of the DOWA Group's major businesses, and the four companies—led by AKITA ZINC, which produces zinc ingots in Akita, Akita Prefecture—have been operating in cooperation with each other. In addition to zinc smelting operations, the merger and integration of the four companies will enable AKITA ZINC to achieve integrated operations extending to processing of zinc recycling raw materials, production of processed zinc products, and production of rare metals, thereby achieving more efficient management.
AKITA ZINC is the largest zinc smelter in Japan with an annual production capacity of 220,000 tons. It is one of the core locations in the DOWA Group's combined smelting and recycling complex, which is composed of some smelters, and plays a key role in the resource recycling process. Zinc is used for plating in automobiles, infrastructure, and construction materials, and its demand is expected to continue to grow steadily worldwide. The DOWA Group will continue contributing to the creation of a recycling-oriented world by providing a stable supply of zinc and strengthening its international competitiveness, and expanding the production and supply of zinc and various other recycled metals.
